West Bengal announces curbs for travellers; goes under partial lockdown

During the last days of December 2021, there were hush-hush talks about a possible Kolkata lockdown from the first Monday of the new year, and it has come partly true. The West Bengal government has announced lockdown measures to control the growing cases of coronavirus in the state.

Travellers in West Bengal must be careful about venturing out, and going to bars and restaurants as they will now be operating at 50% capacity only. The same goes for shopping malls. All these establishments will have to close down by 10 PM every night.
One of the most important parts of the partial lockdown is the ban on public movement, gatherings, and vehicles from 10 PM to 5 AM. The latest rules suggest that only emergency services, and essential services will be permitted.

Starting January 3, West Bengal has also banned entry into zoos, and other tourist places. Moreover, gyms, swimming pools, spas, and salons will remain closed from tomorrow.
West Bengal Chief Secretary has said that all markets must be sanitised, and has appealed to market committees to ensure that sanitation is done.

The government has ruled that people must follow COVID appropriate behaviour at all times, which means wearing of masks, and maintaining physical distance are must-dos. Over the past months the festivities have led to a surge in covid cases, and this is causing some concern.

West Bengal reported 4512 new infections on Saturday, with Kolkata recording 2398 new cases of COVID.
