He highlighted their full cooperation throughout the probe, “The family has been nothing but cooperative and gracious and are victims in this case.” Speculation had swirled online and in the media since Nancy Guthrie vanished, but the family was never named suspects by officials. “To suggest otherwise is not only wrong, it is cruel,” Prima County Sheriff continued.“The Guthrie family are victims plain and simple … please, I’m begging you the media to honor your profession and report with some sense of compassion and professionalism,” the statement continued.

Authorities believe a masked, hooded intruder kidnapped her in the early hours of February 1, as captured on her doorbell camera.The family reported her missing the next day. DNA evidence not matching Nancy Guthrie or her relatives was found at the scene, with investigators working to identify its source. “Investigators are working to identify who it belongs to. We are not disclosing where that DNA was located,” the sheriff’s office previously said in a statement to PEOPLE on February 13.A glove matching the intruder’s appeared two miles away, said the FBI. Blood on her porch was confirmed as Nancy Guthrie’s, and she requires daily medication due to fragile health and a pacemaker.Alleged ransom notes surfaced at media outlets, but no verified contact has reached the family or police. On Saturday, February 7, Savannah Guthrie and her siblings posted a video on Instagram stating, “We will pay” for Nancy Guthrie’s return.
