Golden Globes 2020: Ellen DeGeneres receives Carol Burnett Award; thanks 'power of television'

Adding another feather to her hat, American comedian Ellen DeGeneres received the esteemed Carol Burnett Award at the Golden Globes 2020.The host and comedian from the famous 'The Ellen Show' who is already a recipient of 30 Emmy Awards arrived at the red carpet of the glorious Golden Globe Awards in style on Monday.Ellen DeGeneres turned her Golden Globe Award speech into a very personal stand-up routine, gently mocking traditional award show speeches and ultimately thanking "the power of television."The pioneering sitcom star, TV talk-show host and game-show MC was handed the Globes' new TV special achievement trophy on Sunday. She joked she was relieved she didn't have to worry."The thing I like about this award is that coming in I knew I was going to win," she said.The Hollywood Foreign Press Association bestowed the Carol Burnett Award - the small-screen version of the group's film counterpart, the Cecil B. DeMille Award - to DeGeneres as someone "who has made outstanding contributions to television on or off the screen." The first Carol Burnett Award last year fittingly went to Burnett herself, who sat beside DeGeneres.Kate McKinnon, a "Saturday Night Live" veteran, introduced DeGeneres and credited her with helping her feel that a lesbian could accomplish anything on TV.DeGeneres's show "Ellen" became a historic landmark in TV history in the 1990s when her character came out as gay. She currently hosts two series - her popular syndicated talk show, "The Ellen DeGeneres Show," and a game show, "Ellen's Game of Games." In 2016, she received the Presidential Medal of Freedom from Barack Obama.Once she got onstage, DeGeneres honored Australians dealing with devastating fires. Then she went on to say, "I had a sitcom. And I lost that sitcom. Then I had another sitcom, and I lost that sitcom, too," she said. "I got to do something I always wanted to do: make whiskey. Then I got a talk show. I got a talk show.
