Jon Snow lives – at least according to GoT fan theories

Fans of the fantasy hit TV show 'Game of Thrones' (GoT) who were disappointed by the demise of one of show’s main characters, Jon Snow, in its fifth season finale are now speculating that Jon (played by Kit Harington) may not be dead after all. Reason: Kit was recently spotted at Wimbledon with the long locks he sports when he’s shooting for GoT — which he is under contractual obligation to keep as long as he is working on the show.This, despite the fact that in the series of books on which the show is based — A Song of Ice and Fire — Jon dies at the end of the last book so far, A Dance with Dragons, in a very similar manner to which he does in the show. Kit himself has said that the show’s creators — David Benioff and DB Weiss — have told him that he’s not coming back. However, there are various theories put forward by fans of the show and the books that seem to support the idea that Jon Snow will return. We take a look at some of them.
Melissandre will resurrect Jon
There is a precedent for this in Season 3, when The Hound battles Beric Dondarrion and kills him — only to see Beric brought back to life by Thoros of Myr, a red priest who worships the Lord of Light, like Melisandre. Coincidentally, Melisandre is at Castle Black when Jon is stabbed and left for dead, after abandoning Stannis Baratheon’s seige of Winterfell, presumably because she realises that Jon, and not Stannis, may very well be the reincarnation of Azor Ahai, a legendary hero who saved the world from the Night Walkers the last time they were seen in Westeros.
Jon will become a night walker
In GoT, dead doesn’t necessarily mean dead. Characters have come back as wights (ice-cold zombies for the uninitiated) possibly created by Night Walkers. This could happen to Jon if his body hasn’t been burned by the Night Watch. Some fans say Jon could become the next Night’s King, a possible successor to the White Walker he had that epic stare-off with in Season 5. Other theories say the Night’s King is a Stark and can sense Jon’s Stark blood, which would make him of greater interest to the Night’s King.

Jon is reborn in fire
If Jon’s brothers in the Night’s Watch do burn his body to prevent him from becoming a wight, he may just be reborn — that is, if he fulfils the Azor Ahai prophecy. But for that, he must not only be reborn amid smoke (which would happen in a cremation), but also fit several other criteria — like being born amid salt, wield a flaming sword called Lightbringer to wake dragons out of stone, and come from the line of Aerys and Rhaella Targaryen (Daenerys Targaryen’s parents) — that haven’t been dealt with in detail in the show.
Jon's parents aren't who you think they are
Several fans of the books don’t take Ned Stark’s explanation of Jon’s parentage at face value. For one, Ned never explicitly says that Jon is his son, only that he is a Stark, and he never got the chance to tell Jon who is mother is. Or was, if you go by the R+L=J theories that is a fan favourite. This theory states that Jon’s father was actually Rhaegar Targaryen (Daenerys’ other departed brother) and his mother was Lyanna Stark (Ned’s sister). This would mean that Jon is the illegitimate grandson of Aerys and Rhaella Targaryen, and would therefore fulfil another criterion of the Azor Ahai prophecy.
Jon will warg into his direwolf ghost
There are theories that suggest that Jon will warg — transfer his consciousness into that of another living being — into his direwolf Ghost. However, this may be the most unlikely of the theories because while in the books, all the Stark children have exhibited that they are wargs to varying extents, the show only focuses on Jon’s younger half-brother Bran’s abilities in this department. What’s more, in A Dance with Dragons, Jon’s last word is “Ghost”, but the show doesn’t have him say anything at all. However, there are GoT fans who swear that the colour of Jon’s eyes change in the last scene of the season finale, which may be an indication that he has indeed warged.
