'MasterChef Australia' 2026: Andy Allen explains why viral creators are the new guest stars

<b>'MasterChef Australia' 2026: Andy Allen explains why viral creators are the new guest stars</b>
MasterChef Australia is set for a thrilling new season, with judge Andy Allen revealing a significant shift towards social media stars and content creators joining established chefs. This move, inspired by last year's successful cameo, aims to broaden the show's appeal. Expect a diverse and unpredictable culinary competition with fresh faces and exciting guest appearances.
'MasterChef Australia' is back for another season, and judge Andy Allen says one significant change will make it more popular than ever. The show returns with 40 new hopefuls in the kitchen, and by all accounts, this season is shaping up to be one of the most exciting yet. Speaking to WHO, Allen revealed that while Meghan Markle's guest appearance is generating significant buzz ahead of the premiere on Sunday, April 19, many more exciting cameos are still to come. He returns alongside fellow judges Poh Ling Yeow, Sofia Levin, and Jean-Christophe Novelli.

What did Andy Allen reveal about this season's guest appearances?

The show is no stranger to celebrity cameos, with Robert Irwin and Jimmy Barnes already confirmed for this season. But the producers have gone slightly off the beaten track with their guest choices this year, leaning into the world of social media and content creators.Allen pointed to last year's appearance by comedy trio Sooshi Mango as the moment that changed the approach. "Last year, we had Sooshi Mango come on, and it was a massive gamble for us because, at that time, they didn't have their sandwich shop and they weren't kind of known for loving food," he told WHO. "It was a bit of 'people are just going to see through this and not know why they were there, and just take the piss out of it', and it was our highest rating show of the whole season.
"Allen added, "And we have now lent into that — and without giving too much away, there will be guests that, you know, are found on social media, and yes, they obviously have a great relationship with food, and that's their thing."

Why Andy Allen believes social media creators are just as exciting as Michelin star chefs

Allen was clear that the shift does not mean the show is moving away from culinary excellence. It is simply embracing a broader definition of food culture."It's not just your three Michelin star chefs that come in to create a six-hour pressure test. Yes, there's still those amazing Australian chefs that come in and really test out our contestants. But we've kind of lent in to like this kind of undeniable thing that is social media, which is where a lot of people view their content, especially food content these days," he said.He described the new season as "same, same but beautifully different", noting the excitement of returning to fresh faces after a year of returning contestants. With celebrity cameos, social media stars, and a fresh batch of home cooks, 'MasterChef Australia' 2026 looks set to be the most diverse and unpredictable season yet.
