', suffered from a slip disc and underwent a surgery a year ago. Following that, he was told by his doctors to stop his workout regime.

Amal says, “I was almost immobile after I suffered a slip disc and was left with no option but to undergo a surgery. After that, I was asked to take it easy. As a result, I piled on kilos and weighed around 102. Since I am 6 feet 3 inches tall, I could carry it off, but it was not easy. There were times when I would feel breathless. In fact, I even went into depression as I thought that I’d never regain the strength in my lower back. My wife, who is a sports nutritionist, helped me recover and lose weight. Now, I have shed all the extra weight and have even got six-pack abs. Having said that, abs are not very important. What matters the most is that you are healthy.”

Speaking about his takeaway from the experience, Amal says, “We often tend to lift our egos in the gym and not weights. When I was suffering from a slip disc, I, too resorted to lifting weights I was not supposed to. That happens when we try to imitate others.”
