Ankit Siwach: Saas-bahu saga isn’t my cup of tea

There is no denying the fact that saas-bahu dramas rule the roost on the small screen. However, there are some actors who strive to do something different. Actor Ankit Siwach is one such artiste. The actor, who has featured in shows like ‘Rishton Ka Chakravyuh’ and ‘Ishqbaaaz’, and is currently seen in ‘Manmohini’, has consciously steered clear of the saas-bahu sagas on Hindi television.By his own admission, he doesn’t relate to the genre at the moment.
Ankit agrees that such shows enjoy a wider reach, but he is averse to associating with it. He says, “I know that saas-bahu dramas are the ultimate source of entertainment for Indian families. But they aren’t my cup of tea, as I can’t relate to the genre. I have immense respect for those who are a part of such shows, but I don’t see myself fitting the bill at the moment. I don’t think I am in that space right now.”
He adds, “Saas-bahu sagas have always connected with the masses. Most of these dramas are high on family politics, and they strike a chord with the audience because in real life, too, almost every family has internal politics. However, I don’t endorse politics in families. As an entertainer, I feel a sense of responsibility towards my audience and the society at large. I want to influence them in a positive manner. Having said that, I have nothing against any genre. I am grateful to God for blessing me with the kind of work I have always wanted to do. Without demeaning any form of entertainment, I think we should take the responsibility of not only involving the audience, but also evolving them with the kind of content we show.”
