Better late than never: Balika Vadhu team on the SC criminalizing sex with minor wife

If a man has sex with his underage wife, who's below 18 years of age, it will be counted as rape. This landmark ruling by the Supreme Court on Wednesday means that the husband in this case can face up to 10 years of imprisonment under the Indian Penal Code or even a life term under the POCSO (Protection of Children from Sexual Offences) Act of 2012. After the judgment, the actors and writer of the TV show 'Balika Vadhu', which dealt with the life of a child bride, welcome the move, adding that awareness, especially in rural areas, is key when it comes to combating the problem.
