Exclusive - I am proud of Payal Rohatgi, her real journey starts now: Sangram Singh post his fiancee's bail
Bigg Boss 2 fame Payal Rohatgi, who was arrested by Bundi Police on December 15 for her post on social media that was allegedly defamatory of the Nehru-Gandhi family has been released on bail. Fiance Sangram Singh spoke exclusively to the TimesofIndia.com and expressed his happiness over Payal's bail and hailed the power of Freedom of speech.
"There was no case and all this was done intentionally.
I would like to tell Rajasthan police, there are so many crime related incidents happening in their state and they should be concerned about it. But they have all the time to make such cases and arrest people. Leaving all the serious cases and issues their entire team is busy with Payal Rohatgi's case. I am happy that everyone supported Payal in this hour of need and she has got bail. I am happy that the court the right decision as we are a democratic country and the decision was not made under any political pressure," said Sangram.
Sangram, who is also a wrestler by profession stated on what basis was Payal arrested and how come people like Kanhaiya Kumar are roaming around freely, "I feel relieved that Payal is out. Court has stated today that freedom of speech is there in this country. I don't understand that people like Kanhaiya and all who talk against the nation how come they are out. Even they should be punished. Why are they roaming around freely? Nobody is taking any action against them. Payal made a video on the information available on the internet and in the books so she was sent behind bars. How is this justified? The book should also be banned. The websites where these information is available should also be shut down. I think we have Freedom of speech in our country then we should be allowed to express our opinions. I don't think it is a crime to make a video on the facts available on the internet or in books," said he.
Sangram, who was a part of the controversial reality show Bigg Boss 7, says that Payal has not committed any crime she just said what millions of Indians think, but don't speak. He said, "Payal has represented everyone. From an aam aadmi (common man) to khaas aadmi. I feel zubaan sabke paas hai but himmat har kisi ke paas nahi. I am proud of her that she showed the courage to talk about something which she strongly feels about. I used to stop her initially from making such videos, but then I realised that Payal is very strong headed and if she feels about something she will definitely speak about it. When I met her today, she looked more confident and strong. She very well knew that she has not done any mistake and she kept telling me that she hasn't done wrong. I have not committed a crime. They are just making a political matter out of this. I got to know today that person who had reported about Payal is a blackmailer and he had recently kidnapped himself. He is a fraud."
He called Payal a strong lady and says that he was happy to see the support she has got in these last three days, "Payal has said what people have been feeling. She has just represented her. She is a strong lady, there's so much cold out here, and she has survived in this cold here in the Jail for two days. I think the real journey of Payal Rohatgi will start from here. People from different parts of country who follow her on social media travelled here to meet Payal today and they were waiting for her outside the court. From Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh and I felt yes she is doing something right that's why she is getting so much support and love. I haven't slept and eaten since last two days but I think it was all worth after seeing the support Payal has got from everyone. This is a tight slap on the face of the people who were trying to make this a political issue and take a mileage from it," concluded Sangram.
The court had remanded Rohatgi in judicial custody for nine days. She was formally arrested late on Sunday night in Bundi after the Rajasthan police picked her up from her residence in Ahmedabad on Sunday morning. The Bundi court said the right to freedom of speech under the Indian Constitution is not unlimited, while rejecting the bail application of the actress earlier. An FIR was registered against Rohatgi on October 10 under the IT Act in the Sadar police station of Bundi, after the state youth Congress general secretary, Charmesh Sharma, gave a written complaint with a clip of the allegedly defamatory post to the Bundi police.
