Ishu Tomar: You could be the best and still go unnoticed because luck plays a huge role in this profession
Ishu Tomar never planned to be an actor. Originally from a small town in Uttar Pradesh, he moved to Delhi during graduation. Seven years ago, with no contacts or backup plan, he landed in Mumbai, driven purely by instinct.
Ishu says, “I didn’t plan this. Acting wasn’t a goal — it found me. During graduation, something stirred inside me… a quiet pull I couldn’t ignore. I gave it three years, questioned it, tried to be practical, but the feeling stayed. It felt like something my soul had already chosen. So I came to Mumbai and started auditioning that's when I got my first break with the South film Seemaraja. Then I went on to do TV shows like Pukaar, Har Bahu Ki Yahi Kahani Sasumaa Ne Meri Kadar Na Jaani."
He further adds, "The competition is intense. Mumbai is flooded with actors. One is better than the other. Talent alone isn’t enough. You could be the best and still go unnoticed because luck plays a huge role. I feel lucky and glad to be part of the industry.”
Movies fascinated him early on, he says, “I didn’t have a specific inspiration when I began. I just loved watching movies. I wanted to be seen, known — not for fame, but for doing something great. Then I came across Irrfan Khan’s work and quietly realised he’s someone I deeply admire.”
