Actor and TV celebrity Karan Mehra, whose performance in Ragini MMS2 fetched him much accolades, was apparently offered The Shaukeens. But the actor had to let go of the film to continue shooting for his TV show Pavitra Rishta. A source says, "When Pavitra Rishta took a time leap, Ekta Kapoor called up Karan to play Naren. He is one of the key characters in the film and had a lot of screen time.
It's during the same time that he was also offered a role in The Shaukeens, which stars Anupam Kher, Annu Kapoor, Piyush Mishra and Lisa Haydon, and Akshay Kumar in a special appearance.
