Kaun Banega Crorepati 17: Contestant Ishit Bhatt apologises for his behaviour following online backlash
The popular quiz show Kaun Banega Crorepati 17 recently made headlines when a young contestant, 10-year-old Ishit Bhatt from Gujarat, became the centre of online criticism for his behaviour. The fifth grader’s mean tone and interruptions during his interaction with host Amitabh Bachchan went viral, drawing strong reactions from viewers across social media platforms.
A week after the backlash, Ishit shared a heartfelt apology in a video posted on an Instagram account named @ishit_bhatt_official. In the clip, the young contestant also requested a photo with Amitabh Bachchan, who kindly agreed. Alongside the video, Ishit expressed regret over his actions in a written note.
“Hello everyone, I want to sincerely apologise for my behaviour on Kaun Banega Crorepati. I know many people felt hurt or disappointed by the way I spoke, and I truly regret it. At that moment, I got nervous, and my attitude came out completely wrong. It wasn’t my intention to be rude — I respect Amitabh Bachchan, sir, and the entire KBC team deeply,” he wrote.
He also reflected on the lesson he learned from the experience, saying, “I've learnt a big lesson about how words and actions reflect who we are, especially on such a big platform. I promise to be more humble, respectful, and thoughtful in the future.” He ended the note by thanking those who supported him despite the criticism, signing off as “The KBC Boy.”
During his appearance on the show, Ishit came across as confident and occasionally impatient, even asking Bachchan not to waste time explaining the rules. While some viewers found his behaviour amusing, others considered it disrespectful towards the veteran actor.

Ishit’s apology has received mixed reactions online. Many users appreciated his honesty and maturity for accepting his mistake. One wrote, “He is a kid, he made a mistake, realised it and apologised. Please don’t become the reason for someone’s childhood trauma.” Another commented, “Apni galti swikarna bhi bahut bada kaam hai. Very good.”
However, some netizens continued to post sarcastic remarks, with comments like, “Arehh, sir lock karoo naa,” referencing Ishit’s now-famous line from the show.
Several public figures, including singer Chinmayi Sripaada, model Rajiv Adatia, and cricketer Varun Chakravarthy, defended Ishit. They urged the public to show empathy, reminding everyone that he is still a child learning from his experiences.
