Aashka Goradia Goble, who has been practising yoga with her husband Brent Goble for quite some time now, recently enrolled herself in a pole-dancing class. “I always wanted to pole dance. Honestly, it is the most difficult thing I have attempted so far, but it is liberating. And it has nothing to do with stripping – pole dancing is an art. Dance has a very major role in my life. My husband and I do acro yoga and before doing that, we have a small dance session every day.”

A trained Kathak dancer, Harshita Gaur feels that leaving her dance training midway was the biggest mistake of her life. However, the actress got back to her passion this year with a show which required her to dance. She says, “Dancing happened when I was in Class II. My mother made me join Kathak classes. I learnt it for six years and cleared four exams for it. Then I had to leave it, which was the biggest mistake of my life. But then finally because of my recent work, I managed to get back to it. I have been practising regulary now and will leave no stone unturned to ace the art.”

Trained in salsa, contemporary, freestyle and hip-hop, Sheen Dass is now learning Kathak. “I have always been inclined towards learning an Indian dance form, particularly Kathak. Madhuri Dixit-Nene was my biggest inspiration to take up formal training in it. I hope that someday I will be able to perform as flawlessly and elegantly as her,” says the Shaadi Ke Siyape actress. She adds that she believes in sweating it out through dancing. “I don’t work out in the gym. It’s monotonous. I choose to burn calories by dancing my heart out at home for approximately two hours every day. I lock myself in my room, play the best music and dance. And trust me, I sweat much more than any person in the gym,” she tells us.

Veteran actress Sudha Chandran grew up dancing and was an acclaimed Bharatanatyam dancer before she became an actress. “I started dancing when I was three. My mother was a classical singer and even before she was married, she had decided that if she had a daughter, she would be a dancer. My father was a part-time typist in classical dancer Sudha Doreswamy’s house. He too had decided that if he had a daughter, she would be a classical dancer. It was all written for me,” she says. How is she keeping up with dance with her tight work schedule? She says, “I am occupied with shoots, but I still find time for dancing and practice whenever I can. It is something I love – dance is the air that I breathe.”
