Since when you have swimming phobia?
I had water phobia since childhood without any reason as such. We always had a small water fountain at home which was very handy during holi celebrations for throwing people in. I just felt i would get drowned. Though i really love beaches but always stayed away from sea water consciously while walking on the beaches in mumbai & abroad too.
So swimming was the last thing on my mind. Always stayed away from them earlier.
How you overcame phobia suddenly in seven days?
It was a conscious decision to get over my fear of water. I knew it won't happen overnight so i went slow but steady & started swimming on weekends only. Apart from breathing and other water excercises, I try to get comfortable with water by doing my own little funny things inside water and even chatting and playing with kids around in the pool. So with a gap of atleast five days ,on my 7th day in the pool, I finally managed to swim well. I was able to float on my own in my third day only in the pool. More than anything else, i feel its the determination which makes things happen. In how many days we learn a new skill depends only on the will to learn, excitement level and how fast is our capability to learn.

How you chose to swim in deep with a friend?
One of my close friends is a very good swimmer & i felt rather than a coach i would be comfortable with a friend. I went slow & steady. I started with breathing excercises initially. I started floating once I was comfortable with water and as my friend is constantly around everything is done safely under close supervision.
Were you not scared?
Yes of course I was very scared in the initial days & even now i wont call myself a swimmer. Its just that now i am not scared of water & can start focussing on getting my breathing & postures correct. Very soon i wil be a confident swimmer. As for the swimming pool accident , I read about it and its really unfortunate. As reported in the paper,it was a case of carelessness. That is why i take utmost care while i am in the pool and don't do anything without the supervision of my friend who is extremely careful too.

Will you take up a show which will involve swimming?
Yes, now i guess i am comfortable to enter the pool for a show as well but only when i have my doubts cleared like, how clean is the pool water, safety measures taken, good swimmers around to help in case of any mishaps etc. Pool water has a lot of chlorine to keep it clean but its not good for skin & hair. So these are the concerns, but apart from that i am just happy that i have overcome the fear in a very less time & a skill is added to my kitty.
Will you be comfortable wearing swimming costume if required on TV?
Well, swimming costumes are not taboos anymore. There are a variety of them available as per an individual's choice of comfort & level of decency defined by them. For TV, that depends on how important it is for the show. If i am comfortable wearing a swimming costume in my personal life while swimming in a club pool, i can do that for my show also if that is really needed & provided all the safety, security measures are taken. As TV is still a conservative medium, i am sure so would be the swimming costume too and I don't think without any reason there would be a scene requiring that.
Do you think audiences are open to see skin show in soaps? What are your views?
To each his/her own but i personally do not believe in unnecessary skin show for titillation. If something is done without objectifying, it can be beautiful. TV audiences may find skin show uncomfortable as tv is generally watched with entire family & with elders & kids it may get a little embarassing but again it depends on how a thing is depicted & in what context. That makes all the difference.
