The Delhi government will conduct a monthly serological survey to assess the prevalence of immunity against Covid-19 among people. It will be carried out between the first and fifth days of the month. The government is preparing a detailed protocol for the survey, which will be conducted in both containment and non-containment zones and will include a bigger sample size than the one used in the latest survey. Health minister Satyendar Jain said the survey would be based on a representative sample to get a comprehensive picture of the latest situation. The recent serological survey conducted by the National Centre for Disease Control and Delhi government, based on over 21,387 samples collected between June 27 and July 5, indicated that around one-fourth (22.9%) of Delhi has been exposed to the virus so far and recovered. Jain clarified that Delhi has not developed herd immunity. “Experts say that herd immunity is developed when 40%-70% of the population has recovered,” he said.
