Delhi riots: Court extends police custody of Shifa-Ur-Rehman till Aug 24

A court has extended the police custody of Shifa-Ur-Rehman till August 24 in connection with deadly riots which took place in northeast Delhi. According to Delhi police, Shifa-Ur-Rehman, president, Alumni Association of Jamia Millia Islamia allegedly took suspicious funds to the tune of Rs7-8 lakh which were received through office receipts but were not deposited in the AAJMI's bank account to conspire communal violence in Delhi. Police sought more time to investigate Shifa-Ur-Rehman under Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act for his alleged role in the Delhi riots. Rehman was arrested on April 26.
