Kim Kardashian draws severe flack for donning earrings with 'Om' symbol, netizens ask her to stop 'cultural appropriation'

American star Kim Kardashian is an avid social media user and keeps impressing her fans by sharing her stunning posts. However, this time the Hollywood star has been drawing flak for wearing the ‘Om’ symbol as an earring. Taking to her Twitter handle, Kim recently dropped a couple of stunning pictures of her but what caught the attention of the netizens were her earrings which had a symbol of 'Om'. In no time, the pictures went viral on social media but for the wrong reasons as netizens took to the comment section to express their dismay and asked her to stop the 'cultural appropriation'. While one of the netizens wrote, 'Stop cultural appropriation of Indian culture!!! WhatsUp with those earing girl???, the other one called out the actress by writing, 'She really out here appropriating culture and religion like it's a hobby. Do some basic research the Om symbol is sacred and it's not an aesthetic.' For the unversed, in Hinduism 'Om' is considered to be one of the most important spiritual symbols. Well, this is not the first Kim has faced such a backlash for hurting the Indian sentiments. Earlier, last year in the month of April, Kim dropped a couple of pictures of herself donning a gold mang tikka and some traditional Indian jewellery along with a pair of crop top and a bodycon skirt. Those pictures created havoc on social media and netizens went on to express their anger by writing similar comments. While one of the netizens expressed his disappointment by writing, 'The fact that you live off of appropriating other cultures without any shame is mind-boggling to me', the other one wrote, 'As being someone who comes from a South Asian background seeing Kim Kardashian wearing a TIKKA pisses me off. My culture isn’t your ‘aesthetic’ or ‘style’, so please show some respect and not use it for you to model in. Cultural appropriation is not okay.'
