Actor turned politician Raj Babbar has got convicted in a case involving the assault of a polling officer and has been awarded two-year imprisonment by a court. However, he was later released on interim bail. The court found him guilty of assaulting government officers and preventing them from discharging their official duty in 1996. The court has also imposed a fine of Rs 6,500 on him. The polling officer had lodged an FIR during an election in May 1996 alleging that Raj Babbar with his supporters barged into a polling center, levelled false allegations of rigging and assaulted the informants.
