Adnan Sami on his viral CAA tweet for Pakistanis: 'I didn't get my citizenship with anything in regards to this law'

Popular singer Adnan Sami, who received his Padma Shri award from President Ram Nath Kovind in New Delhi recently for his contribution to the field of performing arts, in a recent interview, opened up about his viral Citizenship (Amendment) Act tweet in 2019, that stirred up quite the controversy back in the day. He said and we quote: 'My encompassing person has got nothing to do with CAA. I didn't get my citizenship with anything in regards to this law.' Elaborating on what he said in his tweet, the singer asserted, 'I basically told the Pakistani people that this is not their subject, this is internal Indian matter and you keep your nose out of it.' When asked to share his views on Kangana Ranaut's recent controversial 'India got freedom in 2014' remark and how people are now demanding that her Padma Shri honour be taken back, Adnan Sami pointed out that India is a democracy. He said, 'The beautiful thing about India is that it is a democracy. I can say whatever I want, you can say whatever you want, Kangana can say whatever she wants. I may agree or disagree, let it go. By you saying, return this, return that, doesn't make any difference. These are non-issues.' Furthermore, he also opened up about how trolls claim he got his Padma Shri by doing 'chamchagiri', and said, 'It is childish to call somebody a 'chamcha' just because he/she likes a particular person. I might not respect your choice, but I will fight for your right to have that choice.' If you recall, back in 2019, Adnan's tweet on CAA had made headlines. He had then tweeted, 'Dear Pakis who have uninvitedly thrusted themselves into the CAA discussion... Firstly, if ur advocating 4 Muslims, then 1st accept that them wanting to leave you, defeats the purpose of ur existence! 2ndly, if ur so worried about the Muslims, open ur borders for them or ST*U!!'
