#GoldenFrames: Noor Jehan - Beauty with a golden voice

Born as Allah Rakhi Wasai in Punjab's Kasur (now in Pakistan), Noor Jehan was India's most famous singer and actor. Noor Jehan pursued a career in singing alongside her sister in Lahore and used to participate in live song and dance performances before screenings of films in cinemas. As a young girl, Noor Jehan appeared in the K.D. Mehra directed the Punjabi movie 'Pind di Kuri' (1935), and next acted in a film called 'Missar Ka Sitara' (1936). Noor Jehan's first major film role was opposite Pran in 'Khandaan' (1942). The film became a big hit, after which she moved to Mumbai. After the Partition in 1947, Noor Jehan moved to Pakistan and settled in Karachi. Her first big break in Pakistan was in 1951 with the film, 'Chan wey', opposite Santosh Kumar.
