The Delhi High Court has now directed the Union Ministry of Information and Broadcasting to file a status report on action taken against news channels that are not members of the News Broadcasting Standards Association for violations of the Cable Television Networks (Regulation) Act on the complaint moved by Bollywood actor Rakul Preet. Last year, Rakul Preet had moved the High Court to restrain media from publishing and broadcasting unsubstantiated news about her concerning a drugs case that was being probed by the Narcotics Control Bureau, an angle that surfaced during the investigation into the death of actor Sushant Singh Rajput. Rakul wanted the channels and publications to refrain from running any story related to her and the case until the investigation was over and the agency filed an appropriate report/document before the competent court.
