Abhay Jodhpurkar: At least 50 per cent of my playlist is Malayalam songs

The name is as non-Malayali as it can be – Abhay Jodhpurkar. But the song – the lullaby Minnaminni in the film Koode – quite contrary. We ask the singer from Madhya Pradesh, who has won over us with his amazingly perfect diction and mellifluous voice, how he managed it and more, about his musical journey and dreams. “Minnaminni is my third song in Malayalam, after Nokki Nokki of Jomonte Suviseshangala and Kalam of Akaash Vani,” says Abhay, who grabbed the opportunity to sing in Koode after contacting M Jayachandran for an audition. “That was after my first song, A R Rahman’s Moongil Thottam from the film Kadal, happened. He tried out my voice recently when I was in Chennai. My voice worked for one of his songs, which happened to be Minnaminni. It was a dream come true singing for him and the cherry on the cake was that it's an Anjali Menon film,” says the young singer, whose perfect diction was quite a talking point after the song released.
