Veteran actor BN Sharma, who has witnessed Punjabi cinema struggling, says once Punjabi comedy attracted only pendu (villagers) viewers. We had fuhar (loud) comedy genre, which showed a comedian slipping into funniest attire and speaking rubbish, particularly senseless. Only pendu log (villagers) used to come for Punjabi movies riding tractor trolley. If I used to tell anyone then that I am an actor, people would look at me and say ‘arey yaar Punjabi films ka koi standard nahi hai’. But now our industry shows satire, spoofs in a way that viewers fall for it. The things have changed and I am proud that my industry has progressed. Once I met Akshay Kumar and introduced myself. And his reply was ‘maine aapki bahut filmey dekhi hain’.”
