The war of words between Bollywood actor Ajay Devgn and Kannada star Kiccha Sudeep over Hindi being the national language has now taken a new turn as South megastar Chiranjeevi has offered his two cents on the whole debate. At the pre-release event of his upcoming film ‘Acharya’, Chiranjeevi spoke at length about how, over the years, Hindi cinema has been projected as Indian cinema. The megastar talked about a trip he took to Delhi in 1988 to receive a National Award for his film ‘Rudraveena’. He went on to say that after the awards ceremony when everyone gathered in the hall for high-tea, he saw that the walls around them were decorated with the posters of Prithiviraj Kapoor, Raj Kapoor, Dilip Kumar, Amitabh Bachchan and others, showcasing the grandeur of Indian cinema; whereas there was just one poster of M G Ramachandran and Jayalalithaa dancing that represented the south film industry. Further revealing how he felt humiliated and sad, Chiranjeevi said that he expected to see photos of legends like Dr. Rajkumar, N T Rama Rao, A Nageswara Rao but neither of them was even mentioned. The actor said, "They were demigods to us. And there were no pictures of them. For me, it was humiliating. I felt very sad. They projected only Hindi cinema as Indian cinema. And they dismissed other industries as regional language cinema. They didn’t even bother to acknowledge its contribution." The event was also attended by ‘Baahubali’ and ‘RRR’ director SS Rajamouli who was standing next to Chiranjeevi as his speech got cheer and applause from the audience.
