NASA conducted a test of its newly redesigned RS-25 engine for future flights of the Space Launch System (SLS) rocket, the latest step in the agency's efforts for a return trip to the moon, then eventually to Mars. The hot fire test took place at the agency's Stennis Space Center near Bay St. Louis, Mississippi. The new engines will help power future Artemis missions to the Moon beginning with Artemis V. During the latest test, engineers fired the engine for about 10 and a half minutes, the same amount of time the engines must operate to help power SLS to space.
