In a rare and emotional moment during a televised interview with journalist Pavel Zarubin, Russian President Vladimir Putin recalled the profound personal impact of two of the country's most tragic hostage crises. Speaking about the 2002 Nord-Ost theater siege, Putin revealed, "I got down on my knees for the first time in my life." Zarubin followed by referencing another highly emotional moment, when Putin was seen kneeling publicly at the memorial for the victims of the 2004 Beslan school siege. Confirming the significance, Putin said, "Yes. It was a special case. It was about children... it will stay with us forever." The remarks offered a rare glimpse into the personal weight the events continue to carry for the Russian leader, over two decades later. Watch.
