Russia has described its latest large-scale missile and drone barrage on Ukraine as a calculated act of revenge, framing the operation as a direct response to what it calls repeated Ukrainian “terrorist attacks” on Russian-controlled territory. According to the Russian Defence Ministry, the overnight strike was a “massive response operation” involving hypersonic Oreshnik missiles, Iskander systems, Kinzhal and Zircon missiles, and long-range drones. Moscow says the attacks targeted military command centers, air bases, and defence-industrial sites, claiming all designated objectives were successfully hit. The escalation follows deadly incidents in Luhansk, which Russia says triggered its retaliatory strike campaign.
