The number of American service members killed in the ongoing US-Iran conflict has risen to four, after a previously critically wounded soldier succumbed to injuries, US Central Command confirmed. The service member had been seriously injured during the first wave of Iranian strikes targeting US positions in the region and died despite receiving medical treatment. Several other personnel remain seriously wounded as operations continue. US President Donald Trump addressed the nation in a six-minute video posted on social media, calling the fallen troops "true American patriots who have made the ultimate sacrifice" and vowing that the United States would "avenge their deaths and deliver the most punishing blow to the terrorists who have waged war against civilisation itself." Trump also warned that further casualties were probable, saying: "Sadly, there will likely be more before it ends. That's the way it is." The remarks came as US and Israeli forces intensified strikes on ballistic missile sites and naval assets across Iran following the killing of Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. Iranian officials say more than 200 people have been killed since the strikes began, while Tehran has continued launching missile and drone attacks against Israel and Gulf Arab states. CENTCOM confirmed that the identities of the fallen service members would be withheld until next of kin are notified, and reiterated that major combat operations remain underway across the region.
