Indian track and field athlete Neeraj Chopra created history at the Tokyo Olympics 2020 by bagging a gold medal in the Javelin Throw final with his magnificent throw of 87.58 meters. He has become the first Indian to win the athletic medal ever at the Olympics and the second-ever individual Olympic gold medallist after shooter Abhinav Bindra. Talking about his journey from Subedar Neeraj Chopra to Olympics gold medalist, it was not that easy. Born on December 24, 1997, into a farming family in the small village of Haryana, Khandar Neeraj, who is among the fittest athletes in the world, was suffering from obesity at one point of time. He was advised to focus on sports by his family to reduce weight after which he took to javelin throw but gradually he got hooked up with the sport, and the rest is history. Hailing from Panipat, Neeraj has graduated from DAV College from Chandigarh and got enlisted in the 4 Rajputana Rifles as a Direct Entry Naib Subedar. And post this his journey of becoming the champion started. After joining the Indian Army, he was selected for training at the Mission Olympics Wing and the Army Sports Institute in Pune. In 2016 only, he rose to fame in the sports arena by winning the junior world title and became the first Indian to win gold with a throw of 86.48 m. Watch the video for more details.
