India’s air defence strategy is entering a decisive phase with plans for large-scale acquisitions across multiple platforms. The government has informed a parliamentary panel that deals for 114 Dassault Rafale jets, around 60 transport aircraft, and additional AEW&C systems are expected to be concluded by 2026–27. This marks a shift from incremental upgrades to a full-spectrum modernisation. The focus is not only on fighter jets but also on logistics, surveillance, and electronic warfare capabilities. The transport fleet upgrade will replace ageing Antonov An-32 aircraft, ensuring better reach and efficiency. At the same time, domestic manufacturing through Dassault Aviation partnerships signals a strong push towards self-reliance. In a rapidly evolving geopolitical landscape, this expansion is about preparedness as much as power. Because in modern conflicts, air superiority is not optional. It is essential.
