India has taken a significant step in advancing its military modernisation, with the Defence Acquisition Council approving a wide range of procurement proposals worth approximately ₹2.38 lakh crore. The approvals span the Army, Air Force, and Coast Guard, reflecting a comprehensive push to enhance capabilities across air, land, and maritime domains. For the Indian Air Force, the focus is on strengthening both mobility and combat capability. The approval for 60 Medium Transport Aircraft addresses a long-standing requirement to replace ageing platforms such as the AN-32 and IL-76, improving strategic and tactical airlift capacity. Additional S-400 systems will further reinforce India’s layered air defence network, while the clearance for Remotely Piloted Strike Aircraft signals a growing emphasis on unmanned offensive capability. The Army’s approvals centre on enhancing firepower, communication, and battlefield awareness. Systems such as the Dhanush artillery gun, Air Defence Tracked Systems, and high-capacity communication networks are aimed at building a more responsive and networked force. Additional capabilities, including anti-tank ammunition and flexible surveillance systems, further strengthen operational effectiveness. For the Coast Guard, the induction of Heavy Duty Air Cushion Vehicles will enhance coastal surveillance, rapid response, and logistical capability across India’s maritime zones. The approvals come amid a broader surge in defence procurement, with record figures recorded in the 2025–26 financial year.
