In a strong intervention during the Rajya Sabha Budget debate, Raghav Chadha raised three key concerns impacting millions of Indians. The Aam Aadmi Party leader proposed optional joint tax filing for couples to reduce financial burden on families with unequal incomes. He also called for restoring 100 percent tax exemption on disability pensions for armed forces personnel injured in service, describing taxation on such benefits as unjust. Another major demand was the abolition of penalties on bank accounts that do not maintain minimum balance, which he said disproportionately impacts low-income and rural citizens. Chadha argued that such penalties contradict the goal of financial inclusion and place unnecessary stress on small account holders. Drawing parallels with global practices in countries like the United States and Germany, he urged the government to adopt practical reforms.
