Muslim Kashmiri girls defy patriarchy, build careers in acting

The muse to countless poets and writers, Kashmir with its snow-clad mountains, high altitude passes, dense pine forests has been luring Bollywood filmmakers to make the most of its beauty.However, in the recent past few decades, shooting in the picturesque Valley has seen a decline due to insurgency. Now, with improvement in the situation in the Valley, many Bollywood directors and theatre personalities are returning to shoot at the paradise. This has in turn attracted local youths, especially young girls, to choose acting and modeling as their career choice.
