The Trinamool Congress is likely to support the no-confidence motion against Om Birla, Speaker of the Lok Sabha, setting the stage for a political showdown in Parliament. The decision reportedly comes following directions from party chairperson Mamata Banerjee. Earlier, the party had indicated it would not back the resolution, which had raised hopes among treasury bench members of possible support beyond the opposition bloc. The motion seeking Birla’s removal is expected to be taken up on March 9 as Parliament reconvenes for the second phase of the Budget Session. Opposition parties, including the Indian National Congress, have accused the Speaker of bias and undermining the rights of MPs during proceedings.
