Congress slammed Prime Minister Narendra Modi for “hiding behind the Speaker” after Om Birla said he had advised the PM not to attend the Lok Sabha on February 4 due to “unexpected” conduct by Congress MPs. Priyanka Gandhi accused the government of avoiding discussion, while Pawan Khera dismissed the security concerns, saying women MPs were only protesting. Modi’s reply to the Motion of Thanks on the President’s Address was cancelled as opposition leaders stood near his chair with posters. Birla had earlier described the behaviour in the House as unprecedented, saying he personally witnessed the developments. He thanked the Prime Minister for staying away, stating it prevented unpleasant scenes, and appealed to all members to uphold parliamentary decorum and traditions.
