At the 80th UN General Assembly, Turkiye’s President Recep Tayyip Erdogan once again raised the Kashmir issue, calling for its resolution through dialogue and in line with UN resolutions. He said Turkiye was “pleased” with the India-Pakistan ceasefire after recent tensions and stressed the need for cooperation on counter-terrorism. This is not the first time Erdogan has brought up Kashmir on the global stage—during a visit to Pakistan earlier this year, he expressed similar views and voiced solidarity with the Kashmiri people. India strongly rejected his comments, with the Ministry of External Affairs condemning them as interference in internal matters. New Delhi has repeatedly asserted that Kashmir is its internal issue and opposes any external references.
