The communal violence on April 2 in Karauli gutted 80 shops and resulted in a loss of Rs 2.15 crore. The fire that ravaged the city left a deep mark. People are victims of widespread vandalism, arson, and looting. They have little reason to trust the promise of law and order. The curfew has been lifted from Sunday, April 17. But the simmering tension is quite perceptible in city markets. Uneasy calm can be seen in areas where shops and houses were torched. Peace talks between two communities happen regularly. Cops can be seen at every nook and corner. And a tense situation still prevailing.
