‘Mumbai copying Delhi’: Poor air quality in Mumbai triggers comparisons with national capital

According to SAFAR scientists, this year, the last week of November and first week of December have seen the most polluted days in Mumbai.
For the second time this winter, the maximum air quality reading recorded in the city was worse than the national capital Delhi, which is associated with poor AQI for years.

According to the System of Air Quality Weather Forecasting and Research, Mumbai’s air quality index at 308 was worse than Delhi’s 262 recently. Mumbai’s AQI was poorer than Delhi on 15 November too.
The air quality is most likely to remain in the poor category due to low wind speed, vehicular pollution, garbage burning and dust pollution.
Experts say high AQI is likely to trigger a health alert for Mumbaikars, especially those with respiratory issues.
