Karen Fukuhara plays Kimiko in "The Boys." Known for her roles in action films, Fukuhara joined the series in its first season. Kimiko, also called "The Female," is the first powered member of the group before Starlight. She was found in a cage and has been an integral part of the team since.

Kimiko's silence is due to a traumatic experience in her childhood. She witnessed her parents being murdered by the Shining Light Liberation Army, which left her mute. This traumatic event is depicted in Season 2, Episode 3. To communicate, Kimiko and her brother Kenji developed their own sign language.

After joining The Boys, Kimiko uses sign language to communicate. While some teammates find this frustrating, Frenchie is supportive and learns sign language to communicate with her. Their bond is a significant part of the series.

In Season 4, Episode 2, Kimiko attends a therapy session to try and regain her speech. The session does not go well, and she expresses her frustration through text messages and by breaking a chair when asked about her family history.

Fans hear Kimiko speak only in her imagination in Season 3, Episode 5. In this episode, she sings "I Got Rhythm" with Frenchie. Showrunner Eric Kripke wanted to avoid stereotypes and ensure Kimiko had a strong presence despite her muteness.

Kripke hinted that more about Kimiko's silence will be revealed in Season 4. Fukuhara teased that the reasons for her muteness would be addressed in later episodes. The therapy sessions in Season 4 suggest that Kimiko might start speaking again.
