Lakshya Kochhar is winning praise for his performance in Ajju Kadri in Bambai Meri Jaan. The actor plays the role of Kay Kay Menon’s son in this period crime thriller. “The narrative essentially revolves around the family. It is more about the brothers and how they grow. My character is the spoiled brat of the house, tagging along where his older brothers are going and doing what they are doing and all. And then later on, as responsibility strikes, suddenly he tries to become a man and fill into the shoes of the brother. Basically there’s a little Game of Thrones thing happening,” shared Lakshya giving an insight about the story.
When the show was announced, comparisons were drawn with the real life stories of Dawood Ibrahim and Haji Mastan. Clarifying on the same, Lakshya added, “We are specifically not following any person's trajectory here. We are just following, like, it's a fictional story with constructed characters. Also, we are solely talking about the family and what happens at home. This series talks about the human side of all the gangsters.”
Speaking about sharing the frame with Kay Kay Menon, the actor stated, “It was fabulous. He is a masterclass. I call him the father of acting. Whenever we had a scene with him, we were just trying to impress Kay Kay Menon, we felt the need to get his approval. We were at ease with him, there was a lot of banter too. But just seeing him perform is a different high for any actor. His level of prep is unparalleled, it's admirable. When you see him walk on set, you see the character and you don't see KK sir at all. I called him Abbu because I always saw him as Abbu on set. And I still do call him that. I don't know if any of us would be able to match his craft in our lifetimes.”
Bambai Meri Jaan had an open ending, leaving scope for a sequel. “I'm sure it'll be really huge in the next part. Since I am one of the two characters left in the narrative, I am hoping that they'll increase the role even more. I honestly love the character and I've lived with him for so long. We shot this over three, three and a half years. So, I have a very personal connection with Ajju. The journey from Dubai can go anywhere internationally,” concluded Lakshya.
