The Korean blockbuster 'Firefighters' has officially surpassed 2 million moviegoers! According to the Korean Film Council, the film recorded 2,005,651 viewers as of December 18, just 16 days after its release on December 4.
Directed by Kwak Kyung Taek, 'Firefighters' has been based on real stories. The heroic efforts of those firefighters who have responded to the devastating fire in Hongje Neighborhood in March 2001 are featured in this movie. As they tried their best under extreme conditions in order to dampen the flame and to rescue the victim, they are portrayed here with blood, sweat, and tears, as the Western Fire Station team continued to operate under extreme circumstances.
In commemoration of this milestone, the cast expressed their heartfelt gratitude to fans. Joo Won said, "We exceeded 2 million moviegoers! I sincerely thank you. I love you." Yoo Jae Myung added, "2 million viewers thank you from the bottom of our hearts. Wishing you all happiness!
Actress Lee Yoo Young commented, "The name to remember: Firefighter. We've hit 2 million! I love you. Thank you." Meanwhile, Oh Dae Hwan posted a touching note on their charity efforts: "Thanks to all of you, we were able to donate 238 million won (approximately $164,000) to the National Fire Hospital. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.
Other stars, including Lee Jun Hyuk, Jang Young Nam, Hong Sang Pyo, Kim Min Jae, and director Kwak Kyung Taek, also extended thanks to the audience and celebrated this victory in the film.
