Israel bombs Lebanon: IDF airstrikes along Musaylih Road kills 1; claims to target Hezbollah engineering equipment
The Israel defence forces launched a strike at sites where the Hezbollah terror organization's infrastructure was allegedly used to rebuild militant networks in Southern Lebanon.
The Israeli forces claimed that the terror organisation tried to rehabilitate terror infrastructure throughout Lebanon, while endangering Lebanese civilians and using them as human shields.
In a post on X, the IDF said, "IDF Strikes Hezbollah Terror Organization Infrastructure Where Engineering Tools Used to Rehabilitate Terror Infrastructure in Southern Lebanon Were Stored The IDF struck a short while ago, under the leadership of the Northern Command using the Air Force, infrastructure of the Hezbollah terror organization where engineering tools that were used to rehabilitate terror infrastructure in southern Lebanon were stored."
"The Hezbollah terror organization continues in attempts to rehabilitate terror infrastructure throughout Lebanon, while endangering Lebanese civilians and using them as human shields. The presence of the tools and the activity of the Hezbollah terror organization in the area constitute a violation of the understandings between Israel and Lebanon. The IDF will continue to operate in order to protect the State of Israel," it added.
Videos circulating on social media claim to show the attack, featuring a plume of orange smoke visible from a distance.
Footage released by the Hezbollah-run TV al-Manar outlet showed a large explosion following the attack, which hit the village of al-Najariyah in southern Lebanon’s Sidon district, Al Jazeera reported.
The news outlet reported that at least one person has been killed and two others injured in a “series of violent air strikes” targeted an “exhibition for selling bulldozers and excavators”.
Al-Manar correspondent: A series of violent air strikes launched by the enemy warplanes targeted an exhibition for selling bulldozers and excavators on the Musaylih road on the outskirts of al-Najariyah.
Lebanese President Joseph Aoun condemned Israel on Saturday for conducting overnight strikes on civilian facilities, the health ministry reported, resulting in at least one death.
"Once again, southern Lebanon has been the target of a heinous Israeli aggression against civilian installations -- without justification or pretext," Aoun stated. "The seriousness of this latest attack lies in the fact that it comes after the ceasefire agreement in Gaza."
Earlier, Lebanon arrested 32 people in recent months on suspicion of providing Israel with information on Hezbollah that facilitated strikes on the Iran-backed terrorist group, a judicial official told AFP on Thursday.
More than a year of hostilities between Israel and Hezbollah, including two months of open war, saw Israel pummel the group’s arsenal and kill a slew of senior commanders, and it kept up strikes even after a November truce that it accused Hezbollah of violating. Requesting anonymity, the official said that “at least 32 people were arrested on suspicion of collaborating with Israel, six of them before the ceasefire.”
So far, “nine people were tried by the military court,” while 23 are still under investigation, the official added. Lebanon has no formal ties with Israel, and any contact is punishable with imprisonment.
