Sky marshals on Nepal flights?
KATHMANDU: Nine years after the hijack of an Indian Airlines aircraft to Kandahar from Kathmandu, resulting in the killing of a passenger, Nepal is likely to re-think the Indian proposal to allow sky marshals on flights from Kathmandu to enhance security.
Nepals Maoist minister for tourism and civil aviation Hisila Yami has forwarded a proposal to this effect to the council of ministers headed by PM Prachanda.

The proposal is aimed to allow airlines flying to and from Kathmandus Tribhuvan International Airport to appoint their own sky marshals for monitoring the flights.
In the past, the Indian proposal was blocked after media propaganda in Nepal that New Delhi was trying to take over its smaller neighbour by deploying its security forces at the lone international airport.
On Christmas Eve, 1999, an Indian Airlines flight was hijacked by five gunmen resulting in an international drama that ended with the death of a passenger and the release of three militants from Indian prisons. Indian Airlines has since then deployed its own staff to carry a security check on passengers before they board the aircraft.
