Russia-Ukraine war: Trump 'dissapointed' with Putin
Expressing frustration and disappointment following a telephone conversation with Russian President Vladimir Putin on Thursday, Trump said,“I’m very disappointed with the conversation I had today with President Putin, because I don’t think he’s there, and I’m very disappointed."
Trump said the discussion left him disappointed due to a perceived lack of intent on Putin’s part to end the ongoing war in Ukraine. “I’m just saying I don’t think he’s looking to stop, and that’s too bad”.
Trump also hinted that he may finally toughen sanctions against Russia, having held off for the past six months while he tried to persuade Putin to end the war. "We talk about sanctions a lot," Trump said. "He understands that it may be coming. "After speaking to Putin, Trump plans to speak to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
Gaza truce: 'Have to get it over with,' says Trump
US President Donald Trump on Friday said he remained “very” optimistic about the prospects of a ceasefire in Gaza, but noted that the situation continued to evolve.
Speaking aboard Air Force One, Trump said, “It changes day to day,” when asked about ongoing negotiations to halt hostilities in the region.
Reacting to reports that Hamas had responded positively to proposed truce talks, he said: “That’s good. They haven’t briefed me on it. We have to get it over with. We have to do something about Gaza.”
Meanwhile, Hamas said that it has given a “positive” response to the latest proposal for a ceasefire in Gaza but called for further talks to implement an agreement, if reached."Hamas has submitted its positive response to the Egyptian and Qatari mediators. We are fully prepared to immediately enter into a round of negotiations regarding the mechanism for implementing this framework,” its statement read, according to The Associated Press.
Iran’s nuclear ‘setback’: Trump says Iran refusing nuclear inspections
Trump stated on Friday that Iran had not consented to inspections of its nuclear programme nor to cease uranium enrichment. He asserted his belief that Tehran's nuclear programme had been permanently set back, although he noted that Iran could potentially restart it at an alternative site. He also announced that he would discuss the situation with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu during Netanyahu's visit to the White House on Monday, as reported by Reuters.
Apart from global conflicts
Trump also talked about other issues apart from global conflicts. On TikTok, Trump said discussions with China over a possible deal concerning the popular short-video app would begin early next week. “I think we’re gonna start Monday or Tuesday… talking to China, perhaps President Xi or one of his representatives, but we pretty much have a deal,” Trump said.
Trump has also confirmed signing trade letters, “probably 12” which would be sent out on Monday, with the names of the recipient countries to be disclosed the same day, while speaking to reporters aboard Air Force One. "I signed some letters and they'll go out on Monday, probably 12”, he said. His remarks come ahead of the July 9 deadline for imposing revised tariff rates, which would range from 10 to 70 percent, and are set to hit dozens of economies, including Taiwan and the European Union.
Donald Trump also addressed the devastating floods in Texas as “terrible”, which has claimed 24 deaths and several missing in the state. "It's terrible. It's shocking ... We're working with the Governor. It's a terrible thing", said Trump.
