The US President Donald Trump on Monday said that he will implement a 25% tariff on all steel and aluminium imports, including those from Canada and Mexico, with additional import duties to follow later in the week.
"Any steel coming into the United States is going to have a 25% tariff," he said while speaking to journalists aboard Air Force One during his journey from Florida to New Orleans for the Super Bowl. When questioned about aluminium, he confirmed, "aluminum, too" would face similar trade restrictions.
Trump further confirmed plans to announce "reciprocal tariffs" - expected "probably Tuesday or Wednesday" - indicating that the US would levy import duties on products where other nations have imposed tariffs on American goods.
"If they are charging us 130% and we're charging them nothing, it's not going to stay that way," he informed reporters.
