About a week ago, Hyundai Motor India Ltd (HMIL) revealed official design renderings of the new-gen Verna, also confirming that a launch will take place on March 21. A few days later, the rear-end design of the upcoming sedan was leaked on the internet. Now, the 2023 Verna has been snapped in flesh for the first time, revealing the complete exterior styling of the car!
Talking about the design of the new-gen Verna, it features a split-headlamp setup at the front, with a large radiator grille dominating the face, flanked by the main headlight unit. A full-width LED DRL strip divides the bonnet and t he front bumper, while the Hyundai emblem is placed on the former. Moving to the sides, the new Verna has some strong character lines, especially on the rear doors.
The sedan has a sloping roofline with a shark fin antenna, and sits on diamond-cut alloy wheels. Talking about the rear design, the inverted L-shaped tail lights are conjoined with an LED light bar. The rear bumper features dual-tone treatment. In other markets, the Verna is sold as 'Accent', and hence, the name can be seen placed right above the LED light bar on the boot lid. However, the India-spec model will feature the 'Verna' badging instead.
The 2023 Verna will be available with two petrol engines, including the current 1.5-litre NA petrol motor that puts out 115 PS and 144 Nm, as well as a brand-new 1.5-litre turbo petrol engine which could put out around 160 PS of maximum power and 253 Nm of peak torque. The new turbocharged petrol engine will replace the 1.0-litre three-cylinder mill (120 PS/172 Nm) that is currently on offer. The new-gen Verna will not be offered with a diesel engine.
The new engine will also make it the most powerful sedan in its segment. That said, the new 1.5-litre turbo petrol motor will also likely be carried over to the Creta, Kia Seltos and Carens in near future. Transmission options will include a 6-speed MT, as well as an optional 7-speed DCT.
The upcoming new Hyundai Verna is expected to come equipped with Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) like Autonomous Emergency Braking, Adaptive Cruise Control, Lane-Keep Assist and more. Other features on offer will likely include an electric sunroof, a large infotainment screen with connected-car tech, a digital driver's display, powered driver's seat, ventilated front seats and so on.
