Bengaluru, Delhi top used car sales, Hyundai Grand i10, Maruti Swift among top picks: Report
The growing appetite for personal mobility in India’s expanding cities continues to push the demand for used cars, with Bengaluru and Delhi emerging as the country’s top destinations for pre-owned vehicles, according to Spinny’s Q1 2025 report.
Covering the period from January to March this year, the report highlights significant changes in how Indians are approaching car ownership. Here are some notable trends from the report.
Among car buyers, compact hatchbacks continue to enjoy a strong fan base. The Hyundai Grand i10, Maruti Suzuki Swift, and Renault Kwid were the most preferred models in the first quarter of the year. Notably, the Swift climbed into the top three, replacing the Baleno in 2025. The most sought-after brands remained consistent, with Maruti Suzuki, Hyundai, and Honda taking the lead.
The report also shows a marked increase in digital adoption. A remarkable 77% of car purchases on Spinny happened online, indicating that more Indians now prefer to buy their cars with just a few clicks.
Automatic cars saw a noticeable jump in popularity, now accounting for 29% of total sales, up from 24% in 2024. The convenience of automatics, especially in traffic-heavy cities, is making them a go-to option for many buyers, particularly women, who now make up 28% of Spinny’s customers. Interestingly, Kochi recorded the highest share of women buyers, while Coimbatore saw the highest uptake of loans among women at 27%.
Petrol cars remain the top fuel choice, with 84% of buyers opting for petrol-powered vehicles. Diesel, CNG, and electric vehicles trailed behind. Yet, Pune stood out for its greener footprint, accounting for 40% of electric vehicle purchases on the platform.
Spinny reported that 57% of purchases were made through car loans. Jaipur led in financing with 60% of customers opting for loan assistance. Luxury cars also held their ground in the Spinny Max category, with the Jeep Compass, BMW X1, and Mercedes GLA leading the premium lineup.
