Hyundai’s new compact SUV spied testing: Fronx rival to sit under Creta

Hyundai’s upcoming Bayon-based SUV has been spotted testing on Indian roads, offering a closer look at the model ahead of its expected launch sometime this year. Codenamed BC4, and at this stage, Hyundai has not officially confirmed the positioning of the upcoming Bayon-based SUV. While some reports suggest it will be a sub-four-metre offering aimed at rivals such as the Maruti Suzuki Fronx, Toyota Taisor and Nissan Magnite, other reports indicate that it could measure over four metres in length and be positioned between the Venue and Creta in Hyundai’s SUV portfolio. Until Hyundai reveals official specifications, the exact segment and positioning of the SUV remain unclear.

Despite the heavy camouflage, several design details are visible. The front end appears to feature a split-headlamp layout similar to the current Venue, with slim LED daytime running lamps positioned above the main headlight units. Previous overseas sightings have also revealed black bumper cladding, front parking sensors and a radar module, suggesting the availability of advanced driver assistance systems.

The side profile carries several styling cues from the international-spec Bayon. The window line, roof profile and overall proportions appear largely similar to the global model, while the alloy wheels feature a new design. Although the wheel size remains unconfirmed, the Bayon sold overseas is offered with up to 16-inch wheels.

At the rear, the SUV continues with a split-lighting arrangement. The lower section is expected to house the primary tail-lamp units, while the upper portion could accommodate indicators and reverse lamps. The test vehicle was also seen with roof rails, rear parking sensors and a reverse camera.
Whether Hyundai will offer a 360-degree camera remains unclear. The feature is currently available on the Creta but not on the Venue, making its inclusion on the upcoming SUV a possibility depending on variant positioning.

The interior of the standard model has not yet been photographed. However, an overseas sighting of the N Line version revealed an all-black cabin theme with contrast detailing and adjustable headrests. The production model is expected to feature a similar layout, albeit with a different colour scheme. Although Hyundai has not disclosed the feature list, the SUV is likely to be equipped with a touchscreen infotainment system, digital instrument cluster, connected car technology, automatic climate control, wireless charging and multiple safety features. Higher variants could also offer ADAS functions.

Powertrain details remain unofficial, but reports suggest the SUV could be powered by a naturally aspirated petrol engine. A factory-fitted dual-cylinder CNG option is also expected. More details are likely to emerge as testing progresses closer to launch.
