Jenson Button takes on new challenge with Jota Porsche 963 in World Endurance Championship

Former Formula 1 world champion Jenson Button, 43, is gearing up to compete in the World Endurance Championship next year, driving a Jota Porsche 963, said a Reuters report. His venture will be in the top hypercar category, featuring prestigious events like the iconic Le Mans 24 Hours race.

Expressing his confidence, Button stated, "I'm still at the top of my game. I've got a pass from my wife," highlighting the hypercars' superior technological sophistication compared to Formula 1 cars.


"In F1 cars, the technology is through the roof and it's the pinnacle of aerodynamic design, and they're the best teams in the world. But they are not as technologically advanced as the hypercars," he explained.

Acknowledging the learning curve, Button emphasized the jaw-dropping complexity of hypercar technology, requiring drivers to excel on the track while possessing engineering expertise.

Retired from Formula 1 in 2016 after a remarkable 18-year career, including 306 F1 races and a world title in 2009, Button is eager to embrace the challenges of endurance racing.

"Hypercars are the coolest-looking cars ever," Button expressed, reminiscing about his childhood fascination. He noted the distinct team atmosphere in endurance racing, where teammates collaborate to develop the car for winning races, a departure from the competitive dynamics in Formula 1.
