Highest vehicle selling states in India in July 2023: Uttar Pradesh, Gujarat and more

As per the latest sales data released by Society of Indian Automotive Manufacturers for Q1, FY2024, Uttar Pradesh became the state with highest vehicle sales across the country, followed by Maharashtra and Tamil Nadu.

​In the list of top ten states and UTs in terms of overall sales, Uttar Pradesh topped the charts, ahead of Maharashtra as Tamil Nadu completed the podium. Karnataka ranked fourth, Gujarat fifth, Bihar sixth, as Madhya Pradesh outsold vehicles as compared to eighth-placed Rajasthan. West Bengal and Telangana ranked ninth and tenth, respectively.

​In the passenger vehicle segment, which comprises cars ranging across segments, Maharashtra led the sales with a healthy 12 percent share, followed by Uttar Pradesh’s 10 percent share. Karnataka and Gujarat were tied at 8 percent share while Haryana and Tamil Nadu followed with 7 percent each.

Moving on to the two-wheeler segment, Uttar Pradesh ranked first with an impressive 17 percent share in the countrywide sales during the Q1 of FY2024. Maharashtra followed at second with 9 percent share, ahead of Tamil Nadu’s 8 percent and Bihar’s 7 percent. Karnataka ranked fifth with 7 percent.

​In the commercial vehicle segment, again, Maharashtra led the sales, commanding a 12 percent sales, closely followed by Uttar Pradesh with 10 percent. Tamil Nadu ranked third with 9 percent, slightly higher than Karnataka’s 8 percent, which is also tied with Gujarat at 8 percent.

In the three-wheeler segment, Uttar Pradesh sold the most units with a 12 percent command in the overall three-wheeler sales across the country. It was followed by Gujarat at 10 percent, which is tied by Maharashtra and Karnataka on third and fourth, respectively.
